Milk Farm Road Sunflowers 2015

The simple beauty of Sunflowers.  Two days of venturing over to Milk Dairy Road.  The sunflowers are always a special way to begin the Summer season.  The smell of the earth, the flowers, the bees and their hives, the warmth of the sun, the light from above.  All of this makes me feel closer to our God.  I always feel like I am a little closer to Him and talk to him and praise him as I am walking around the fields.  This year I looked down at my shoes after shooting the first day and noticed that I was carrying around about 10 pounds of mud.  But that's ok, because that all comes off and the experience is more than worth it all.  God is good and He is good all of the time.  Thank you Jesus for allowing me to see the simple beauty that is around us.

The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament

What a beautiful place.  The level of artistry inspired by God is amazing.  We are very grateful for the opportunity to photograph this Cathedral.  We thank everyone that was so gracious and helpful during our time there.  To be able to view the architectural beauty was unforgettable.  We would encourage anyone to visit.

The Grand Lake Theater, Oakland, CA

In 1980 Allen Michaan, owner of Renaissance Rialto, Inc., purchased the ground lease for the Grand Lake Theater, opening the theater as a single screen Movie Palace.  This began the process of restoration and upgrades that continues to this day!  Robin and I had the pleasure of being able to photograph this beautiful theater which opened  originally in 1926.  Despite the theater reportedly not being profitable, Allen continues to keep it opened, maintaining its Art Decco beauty.  This Historic Icon was built during the time when  artisans took the time and effort to make a building as incredible as possible.  It is an Oakland Treasure.  Thank you Allen Michaan!

 

The Sacramento State Capitol

Well, we had a wonderful time at the State Capitol on March 27, 2015.  We were met by Alex who worked for a Legislator some years ago and now is volunteering as a docent.  He is a very knowledgeable and very amiable.  He gave us tons of great information and made our day wonderful.     It is a beautiful building that everyone can enjoy.  Just take a day and spend the time at the capitol.

According to the California State Capitol Museum, "Demolishing the Capitol and rebuilding it may have been a more economical route. The project began in 1975 and took a total of six years to complete. The final cost of the restoration was over $68 million."  Our docent talked about the capitol having condemned signs at the doors at one time.

The California State Capitol was almost demolished in the 1970s and replaced by the buildings rendered here. Luckily, in a last minute decision the state capitol was instead restored to it’s original historic beauty."  Alex stated the restoration was decided by only one vote.
